Corner Wall Shelves and more
Convenient and Functional Corner Wall Units
When I moved into my small apartment two years ago, I found myself trying to figure out how to store all my belongings in a limited space.
A major challenge was that I am pretty particular about “neatness,” and did not want to sacrifice my need to be organized. There I stood, in the middle of an empty living room, which was going to also serve as my study and exercise space simultaneously. I knew that in order to find a practical, decorative solution for this small area, I needed to be creative. I started using corner wall units to help me decorate my home and utilize all my space.
As I had just moved from my parents’ house, I didn’t have any furniture and my options were open, in terms of color, design, and style. What I had in mind was an entertainment center with a television stand, plus enough space to store all my books, CDs, as well as a few collectibles I have accumulated over the years. I was sure I wanted open bookcases to display my books. I felt glass shelves to hold the television and DVD player would be nice, and I pictured some sort of recessed lighting that would illuminate the display items. On top of these particulars, I knew I needed a few cabinets that would provide concealed storage for more personal items. Because the apartment was so small, I knew I had to find a way to store and display my music equipment, books, clothing, and DVDs while leaving as much open space as possible to exercise. I knew that corner wall units would help me with this.
Price to me was an object, so I was amazed to see the range of prices of corner wall units. They were starting at $50.00 at Target and Ikea, to $9,000 dollars at some of the higher end furniture stores. Also, their functionality varied about as much as their prices did. By going to Ikea and picking out two corner units, along with some similar color shelving, I was able to design a set up that met both my needs.
With a little patience, some elbow grease, a few carefully selected shelving pieces, and two corner wall units, I was able to store every thing I needed along the perimeter of the room. This left me space to lounge, entertain, or do my exercises. For me, the time I invested in putting together my room was well worth the effort. When I come home, I feel like I am in a room that fits my lifestyle and personality, and that is a very rewarding and relaxing feeling. Corner wall units helped me utilize my space in a more productive way, and they will help you too.
